TPACK

 TPACK

TPACK stands for technologies, pedagogical and content knowledge, for me it is very important for teachers as well as the students in the 21st century. It brings a lot more interactive sessions, deeper understandings and a fun way to learn any disciplines. It includes more on technologies for the students to understand ICT and a challenge for the teacher as to be very competent in the content knowledge. As a teacher, it is must that we challenge our students to be more competitive in learning so to discover and explore. This helps them to integrate ICT knowledge to help them remember for longer duration as it includes visual, audio and to learn by doing it themselves.

Subject: Math

Topic: Addition

Class: III

Learning Objectives: at the end of the lesson, the child will be able to,

  • explain the concept of addition without any aid from their friends or teacher after the completion of the session.

  • solve single-digit addition problems using manipulatives and pictures.

  • translate word problems into additional equations and solve them.

Integration of TPACK Model:

  • Refer to the previous lesson plan for details on TPACK integration.

Materials:

  • Chart paper or whiteboard

  • Markers

  • counters or manipulatives (e.g., beans, buttons, pebbles)

  • Projector

Engage (10 minutes):

  • Interactive Counting Game: Use an interactive website like https://www.mathgames.com/counting to play a counting game. Students can click on objects or watch them appear on the screen, then type in the total number. This will activate prior knowledge of counting and combining.

Lead a discussion about combining things. Ask: "What happens when we put things together? Can you give examples?" Encourage students to share real-life experiences where they combine objects.

Explore (20 minutes):

  • using chart paper or creating a small powerpoint presentation by the students to present their understanding and short animation of pictures to explain the concept addition. Explain each letter and its connection to addition in a student-friendly way ( Bring Together, Combine).

  • Explaining word problems and solving some questions as an example.

Explain (15 minutes):

  • Demonstration with Technology: Demonstrate or Use an interactive website like https://www.mathgames.com/counting to showcase the problem. Manipulate virtual objects Explain each step while using student friendly language.

  • Provide students with manipulatives and additional problems on paper (or use the interactive whiteboard if available). Guide them through solving the problems step-by-step. Encourage students to explain their thinking out loud.

Elaborate (20 minutes):

  • Group Activity with Technology: Divide students into groups. Provide each group with manipulatives (optional) and access to online math games like hhttps://www.turtlediary.com/games/kindergarten/addition.html. Encourage them to work collaboratively to solve additional problems.. Have them explain their solutions using the words combined and bring them together for better understanding.

  • Facilitate a class discussion where groups share their experiences with the online games and their solutions. Encourage students to explain how they used the games or with manipulatives. Address any misconceptions and emphasize key points about addition.

Evaluate (15 minutes):

  • Exit Ticket: Have students complete an exit ticket where they create their own additional problem and use an online interactive model (like the ones mentioned in the Explore section) or a drawing to represent the problem. This assesses their understanding of the model and their ability to apply it independently.
